Close encounters

This morning, I was unsure whether to go to Murren again or to ski in Wengen. In the end, the queue for the cable car seemed short enough to take a risk on Wengen, so I did just that.

It was a worthwhile gamble.  The crowds of the last few days were preparing for a night of partying and a quiet day was to be had. Which was welcome, especially as two days previously, I had run over a snow boarder near the Honegg lift.

Normally, I would say if you ski into someone, you are responsible.  However, I plead not guilty in this case.  The snow boarder in question arrived just on my left, tried to turn and fell straight in front of me, only just missing the tips of my skis. I had no time at all to react and ran straight over his legs.  He was very apologetic, as only the English can be in those circumstances.

Today was happier in every sense. Few people, good snow and no close encounters with snow boarders. We have had a convivial dinner with friends this evening, but will not make it through to the turn of the year.

A sunny end to 2019 brought 9,366 vertical metres in 21 lift rides and 51 kilometres travelled.

Happy new year everyone.
