The Idle Skiers made it back to Wengen on Sunday.
It wasn’t a good journey and, late in the month though it is, I have two new resolutions for 2020 and beyond. The first is never to fly from Manchester airport (rude staff; antiquated systems) or to land at Geneva (staff surprised apparently by the arrival of passengers; immigration hall on a par with a garden potting shed).
Sadly also there was a death on the railway line between Geneva and Berne and it was a long day’s journey into night before we finally pitched up at Wengen railway station.
The last couple of days, for me anyway, have been spent working away on the office lap top. I don’t think I missed that much in fact and yesterday, with the wind blowing yet again, much of the mountain was closed.
It did snow though, and was still snowing for most of today. This was good news for the Idle Skier and being freed from the office this morning, I was on my way by 9.30am. After ten days, it was all good.

On Mannlichen, the new snow was deep and silent. Over at Scheidegg, the wind still blew. It was hard going at Eigernordwand, under Fallboden and at Wixi late on. The racecourse home was fantastic though, which makes up for most shortcomings.
A welcome return to the slopes brought 8,071 vertical metres in 17 lift rides and 46 kilometres travelled.
