Quiet day

It is Saturday, the day of free skiing for children and, generally, a free for all on the mountain.  Except today, it didn’t happen as usual.

After a busy week, underscored by work and travel, I made it to the cable car at a snail’s pace this morning.  I expected a long wait, but at 9.40am, I was straight on board and at Mannlichen a few minutes later.

Bonigen ski club were race training yet again and the Wengen demo team were synchronising nicely, but whilst there were queues at the Mannlichen chair and Lager, it was all pretty quiet. This was, needless to say, contrary to expectations for a sunny weekend mid-season.

It seems therefore that any sort of prediction is fraught with risk.  However, with the queue for ski hire at Central Sport going beyond the doors this evening, I think it is safe to say that it will be busy tomorrow.

A snowy Mannlichen and Scheidegg, sat atop a snowless valley,  brought 10,213 vertical metres in 23 lift rides and 52 kilometres travelled.
