Big week is done. The English half term is over for most schools, and here in Wengen, things will quieten down slightly. This afternoon, ski equipment has been returned to the hire shops, more or less intact hopefully. Out on the mountain, a few toboggans lay in gullies and in the woods. In hotels and apartments across the village, the packing is frantic doubtless.
This morning started with thickish cloud in Wengen and although it was sunny already at Mannlichen, it kept many skiers away. The cable car had as many toboggans as skis on board. So for the few of us who skied, it was blue skies and a clear run.
The mid season holidays are not over completely; there will be plenty of skiers from mainland Europe over the next couple of weeks, but a corner has been turned. From now on, it is easy skiing until the end of the season. Is that a good thing? Probably not if you own a business here, although they too might think so as this evening draws to a close.
A blue sky day brought 10,270 vertical metres in 23 lift rides and 52 kilometres travelled.
