Skiing in the sun

We have had all sorts of weather since the mountain opened. Which is fair enough; it is December after all. This morning though, the sun shone over quiet pistes. There was a great day’s skiing to be had, shared by only a few people.

Sun and cloud over Wixi in the afternoon

Yesterday, there had been a strong smell of fuel oil near the Tschuggen T bar. Today, the smell was stronger still and then the lift broke. Are these things connected I wonder? Perhaps we will get a new lift to replace one of the few remaining T bars. In some ways that would be a sad day, the lift being a refuge on crowded Saturdays or in the worst of white outs.

Late in the morning the cloud showed up, but as the afternoon went on the sun rallied well and the last few ski runs were bathed in an orange glow as the sun disappeared behind the mountains.

A magnificent skiing day brought 10,161 vertical metres in 21 lift rides and 55 kilometres travelled.
