The usual suspects

Wengen has many once or twice a year skiers. They come to the hotels and rental apartments and are the backbone of the local ski industry. The village also has another group of people. Each member of this group turned up for a week many years ago and has kept returning year on year, often for much of the ski season. They don’t all know each other, beyond a nodding acquaintance on the cable car, but they are part of the fixtures and fittings of the village each winter. The absence of a Wengen regular is a cause for concern. Where could he or she be?

Over the last couple of days, we have seen many of those regulars. Not all are accounted for yet, but hopefully they will drift into town over the coming days and weeks and the list of usual suspects will be complete.

It was another glorious day in Wengen today, without a cloud in the sky. It was quieter than yesterday, though still with plenty of skiers, until the locals remembered it is a working day tomorrow and headed home at lunchtime. It should be quiet on the mountain tomorrow, but with less sun and warmer weather. There is rain forecast for later in the week, which doesn’t seem right for Christmas at all.

A cold, sunny day brought 7,611 vertical metres in 17 lift rides and 44 kilometres travelled.
